Talbot Inn
I started 2013 with this really large and exciting project. The Talbot Inn was a refurbishment of a Grade II listed coaching Inn located in the heart of the historic village of Mells, Somerset.
I delivered the soft furnishings for the entire property including headboards, window seats, blinds, curtains, holdbacks and poles for eight guest bedrooms, four bars, the coach house grill room and map rooms.
The Talbot Inn is now up and running as a traditional yet stylish coaching Inn with a very good reputation. Have a look at this great review recently featured in The Telegraph –

Beckford’s ‘Splendens Pavilions’
In March 2013 on the Fonthill Estate, Wiltshire two guest lodges were having total refurbishments requiring soft furnishings to fit very unusual sized and shaped windows. I undertook this very challenging job after the previous contractor pulled out due to its difficult nature. The client was desperate for someone to step in and take the bull by the horns. I had free reign on design and delivery. It required me to draw on all my expertise and problem solving but I am really pleased with the results.
These luxurious lodges (the original Pavilion guests included Byron, Nelson and Turner!) are now open for guests.

Bespoke Poles
Since moving to Somerset I have teamed up with a very talented local blacksmith. We can offer customers a range of beautiful hand forged curtain poles and holdbacks; some designed by myself and some are from the blacksmith’s repertoire. These products create a special feature in any room. They are robust yet elegant, will last forever and especially compliment period properties.
I am really excited to be able to offer customers such special products that are of such a high quality of design and craftsmanship at a surprisingly affordable price. In addition, we can deliver new designs to meet your needs / desires and why stop at curtain poles? We can deliver a whole range of matching forged items including fireplace tools, door catches, fireguards, door handles and gates to name but a few.

Nautical themed caravan
For this refurbishment project, the challenge for my client and I was to transform a decrepit and extremely old fashioned seaside static caravan. Avoiding the across the board melamine and velour affects we used nautical / coastal influences and I created curtains, upholstery and cushions to help transform this Dartmouth caravan into a light, welcoming and unique modern family holiday home.

Yoga Mat Bags
I now manufacture Yoga Meditation Mats and Yoga mat bags after my Yoga teacher commissioned me to design and supply them after identifying a need in the market. I can supply stocks to yoga teachers / centres / shops to sell to their clients and customers. A variety of colours is available and can be tailored as required.

Testimonials

“It’s a great feeling to be able to thoroughly recommend someone. If you are looking for new or replacement curtains, I can thoroughly recommend Linda Allan. Firstly, Linda has a keen eye with an intuition to understand what the customer really wants. Secondly, Linda is a designer craftsman and you know that her quality of work will be second to none. So, with Linda, you get the best of both worlds: big imagination for what could be, and the technical skills to advise and produce it. But the unexpected bonus is her very reasonable charges for her work. Don’t let a humble curtain budget put you off making contact. If you are like me and wanted the best at the best price, you’ll be delighted with the process and end result.”
“Somerset Soft Furnishings aka Linda Allan – is that very rare thing, someone who primarily really cares about the detailed quality of her work and a thoroughly professional person to deal with. The finish she achieves is consistently superb, always on time, and she is great value for money for the quality of work she and her team produce. You would be very hard pushed to find a better person to make your curtains or blinds in the West of England."
